Tadeo Ramirez Parada
I am a quantitative macroecologist developing big-data approaches for understanding—and forecasting—how global change reshapes the geography and seasonal structure of plant biodiversity, and how those shifts scale to impact ecosystem structure and human welfare. Across my Ph.D. at UC Santa Barbara and my postdoctoral work at Harvard, my research program has been organized around three primary goals: (1) identifying mechanisms that generate spatiotemporal variation in functional traits (especially phenology) and that underly species responses to environmental change, (2) scaling species-level shifts in traits and geographic ranges to model spatial and seasonal community reassembly, and (3) improving biodiversity forecasts by explicitly incorporating human dimensions beyond coarse impact proxies. To do so, I integrate diverse biodiversity and environmental data streams, as well as modeling workflows including Bayesian hierarchical models, spatial statistics, simulation, and machine learning.
